PARIS (Reuters) - PSA Peugeot Citroen announced the development of a new family of petrol engines which will make a very significant reduction in consumption and CO2 emissions.

Two production units will be installed, one in France and one in Eastern Europe, to build these engines 1 liter 3-cylinder whose power will go from 70 to 100 HP, said the carmaker in a statement.

Investment in the French unit will represent about 300 million euros.

The first unit with a capacity of 600,000 engines per year, will be operational from 2011. It will be installed on the site of PSA Peugeot Citroen Trémery (Lorraine) and will create over 500 jobs.

A second unit will be installed in Eastern Europe by 2012
