New fine of 899 million euros for Microsoft,


The European Commission announced on February 27 a new fine of 899 million euros for Microsoft, in order to punish the lack of goodwill


Microsoft has filed an appeal Friday before the Justice against a fine of 899 million euros which had been imposed in February by the European competition, told AFP a spokesman for the European computer group in Brussels . "Microsoft has filed today (Friday) before the Court of First Instance (the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg) an action for annulment of the decision taken on February 27 by the European Commission," said the spokesman. The American group seeking to have "clarification", he added, refusing to make any other comment.

The European Commission announced on February 27 a new fine of 899 million euros for Microsoft, in order to punish the lack of goodwill of the group to make its software more open. It was the first time that the Commission financially penalized a company for non-compliance with its antitrust decisions. It was also the highest sum ever sought by a single company by the European competition, all offences
