35 universities impose fees illegal
The student union Unef denounced the illegal fees that would pay 40% of French universities for their students, a subject on which the Minister of Higher Education expressed vigilant.
According to Unef, 35 universities are demanding higher fees to registration fees set nationally, for amounts that sometimes exceed 1,000 euros.
The Unef calls on students to be reimbursed and asks the government to stop these practices and to provide the universities of funding necessary.
Questioned by the press, Valerie Pécresse stressed that these additional costs should be voluntary and that rectors should verify and challenge irregularities.
"I have instructed from last year to all rectors to verify the registration fee so that the law is strictly applied," she said after the council of ministers at the Elysee.
"If the law is not, I have instructed the rectors to refer fees possibly illegal administrative tribunal," she added.
For the President of the Unef, "it is not normal universities go look in the pockets of students money that the government refuses."
"We want there to be a political settlement of this situation," said Jean-Baptiste Prévost on France Info.
In its survey published Wednesday on charges illegal, Unef notes that "institutions which continue to claim illegal fees have increased this year concealment of their practices to avoid punishment."
Universities who pay additional highest are those of Aix-Marseille 3, Reims, Lyon 3, Amiens, Grenoble and Chambery 2, or they are greater than 1,000 euros, said the union.
According to its chairman, Unef will not hesitate to seize the administrative courts if these practices do not cease.
In a statement, the University of Aix-Marseilles states have eliminated all charges since the end of June and affirms that the calculations of the Unef are therefore obsolete.
